Phantastic Cake Pops

These Award -Winning Cakepops are bound to be a swing and a hit for your next baseball party! As you can probably already tell I'm a fan of baseball, but even more of a "Phan" of the Philly Phanatic. GO PHILS!

Materials Needed:
  •  1 Box Cake mix (or any cake recipe)
  •  1 tub premade icing (or any icing recipe)
  •  Parchment paper
  •  Lollie pop sticks
  •  2 bags (to be on the safe side) light green candy melts
  •  White sixlets
  •  White fondant
  •  Red fondant
  •  Purple fondant
  •  Blue fondant
  •  Cocoa butter in white, black, red, dark green, light green and yellow (or edible markers in those colors)Lets begin!
First you will make your cake as directed on box or recipe, be sure to line you pan with the parchment paper; that way you can get out every last crumb of cake! Set cake aside to cool. Once cake is cooled you can begin crumbling the cake in a large bowl, mixing in the icing little my little. Once mixed the cake should be easy to mold but NOT sticky. You will want to form cake into 1 1/2 inch ovals. Place the cylinder mini cakes on a lined baking sheet and put in freezer for AT LEAST one hour.

  1. Melt green candy melts (chocolate) in heat safe bowl. Keep an eye on the consistancy as the chocolate can burn. Also the humidity in your home should be under 50%. White chocolate tends to feel heavier when the humidity is too high. Poke a hole in the bottom of the cake pop, then dip the stick in the chocolate. Put the chocolate dipped stick back in the cake and let it sit until chocolate hardens. Once you've done that you can proceed with submerging the cake into the light green chocolate.
  2. Before the light green chocolate hardens press in the white sixlets towards the top of the Phanatics head. (You need to make room for his big mouth).
  3. Next take a fork and gently poke around the Phantics head. This will create a fuzzy look. (Again, you do this while the chocolate is still wet).
  4. Now you will use your white fondant to roll out a FLAT circle, about the size of a quarter. By now your Phanatics head should have hardened. So you will need to apply some melted chocolate to the back of the quarter sized circle, press it gently against his face. This will be the first step of creating his mouth. Below is a picture of how your Phanatic should look so far!
  5. You're half way there! For the second step on creating the Phanatics mouth you will need to roll out a cylinder shape with the fondant. This piece will placed in the center of the flat circle, use a dab of chocolate on the back of the cylinder and press gently on the flat circle to secure in place. Take your ring finger and make an indent in the center of the cylinder, this is going to create the opening of Phanatics mouth.

     6.  The Last step of the Phanatics mouth is a little tricky, you are going to make to roll your
white fondant into an "O", this piece is going to slightly bigger than the cylinder.

Secure "O" into place by using the melted chocoalte. The "O" will fit around the cylinder.

Now lets give him some eyelashes! You are now going to switch over to your purple fondant.
Make two 3 pointed stars. They need to be the size of the sixlets. Dab with chocolate at the
non-pointed end of purple fondant and press against the sixlet gently.

           7. Our Phanatic needs some funky hair! Grab the blue fondant and begin rolling out tiny wirey
pieces. They dont have to be perfect, infact the crazier you make them the better. Roll out
about 7 or 8 strands. Glue them (with the chocolate) in place behind the purple lashes.

               8. To make the baseball cap you will need to roll out a medium sized peice of red fondant.
Form the fondant into a kidney bean shape.
Add a tiny red ball to the top of the hat with the red fondant using the melted chocolate.
Lastly dab some of the melted chocolate on the bottom of the cap and secure it to the top
of the Phanatics head. This is what it should look like:

9, 10, 11. All thats left are a few finishing touches, begin by painting the mouth with the dark green, and light green cocoa butter (or edible markers). The flat circle should be dark green, the cylinder light green and again with the dark green on the "O". I also like to take some of the dark green cocoa butter and go around the light green "furr", creating more of a textured look. Next use the red cocoa butter and paint the inside of the mouth. Lastly add a black dot to the center of each sixlet and a white Phillies "P" on the back on the Phanatics cap.

BOOM! There you have it! Thanks for dropping in for my first blog post! Stay tuned for upcoming sweet treats! Xoxo!
